In the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, one bowler has been raising the bar with his raw pace. The 21-year-old fast bowler Mayank Yadav, who is playing for Lucknow Super Giants, left Glenn Maxwell and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in awe with his furious bowling in their recent clash at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Yadav stole the show, rattling the RCB batters with his pace and precision. Chasing a total of 181/5, RCB succumbed to the pace of the young cricketer and were bundled out for 153 runs and lost the game by 28 runs. Yadav ended with the figures of 3/14 and was awarded the Player of the Match award, making it his second of the season in consecuitve matches too.

He has some real extra speed that you don’t see: Glenn Maxwell

Maxwell, one of the finest all-rounders in world cricket, was one of Mayank’s three victims along with Cameron Green and Rajat Patidar. The Australian admitted to being caught off guard by the sheer pace of the young bowler.

“I thought it was really impressive, He hurried on a few of the Punjab batters and I certainly did a little bit of homework before coming up against him. But it’s nothing doing homework against someone until you see it coming out of the hand and have to try and pick up the length,” Maxwell said to ESPNcricinfo.

“He has some real extra speed that you don’t see a lot of around world cricket at the moment. You see guys bowl pretty consistently around the 140s [kph] or high 140s. But to have mid-150s consistently in your arsenal is pretty formidable,” he added.

Comparing Mayank’s pace to the legendary Shaun Tait in his prime, Maxwell struggled to pick up the length and found himself beaten for sheer pace. “It’s such a beautiful smooth action, He [Mayank] sort of glided through the crease nicely. I think pace-wise, the only one that I can sort of resemble it to is a little bit like Shaun Tait when he was in his heyday,” he said.

With two deliveries clocked above 150 kph, he bounced out Maxwell and castled Green, leaving the RCB in the backfoot. With his recent heroics, Yadav is one of the players who is making the rounds and many experts and ex-cricketers have advised selectors to include him in India’s squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup in June.
