Aakash Chopra named Gurnoor Brar as the most impressive young Indian fast bowler in recent times. The former opening batter shared this take after Brar bagged 10 wickets in the second unofficial Test between India A and Sri Lanka A at the Galle International Stadium.

The right-arm seamer bagged four wickets in Sri Lanka’s first innings and six in the second. He was the star performer with the ball, as India A won the match by 10 wickets to win the two-match series 1-0.

“Gurnoor Brar. As much as we have seen him, the guy is impressive. He has picked up 10 wickets just now against Sri Lanka A. He was picking up wickets in all the games he played for India,” he responded when asked on his YouTube channel to name a fast bowler who has great potential.

Brar made his international debut during the ODI series last month against Afghanistan. While Chopra noted that Afghanistan were not a very strong opponent, the cricketer-turned-expert was impressed with his performance. Brar picked up seven wickets in three games, more than any other bowler in the series.

“Of course, Afghanistan was in front of him. So it wasn’t that big an opposition, but it’s not his mistake what opposition you keep in front of him. So Gurnoor Brar looks like a very, very good prospect,” he observed.

“He is constantly telling us that the guy is special” – Aakash Chopra on Gurnoor Brar

Chopra explained how the Gujarat Titans’ seamer generates considerable bounce, and the ball swings and seams after pitching.

“Firstly, look at his height. After that, he bowls with a high-arm action and his knee braces a little, and that’s why he gains the optimum height. It means you get extra bounce, and the ball releases well from your hand, and that’s why it swings and seams after pitching. He is constantly telling us that the guy is special. He has got the skills,” he said.

While Chopra said that Brar is leading the pack of the most talented young pacers in India, he mentioned that the likes of Prince Yadav and Mohsin Khan are not far behind.

“Prince Yadav looks impressive to me in white-ball cricket. I find Mohsin Khan very impressive, if he remains fit. These are two or three names for now, but the beauty of Indian cricket is that people keep coming. However, at this point in time, Gurnoor is looking like India’s shining light,” Chopra observed.
