Hassan Khan has been named in the USA cricket squad for the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 tri-series, stepping in as a direct replacement for fast bowler Ali Khan, who has been ruled out with a hamstring injury. The tri-series features UAE and Namibia as the other two sides, with all fixtures scheduled from October 3 to 13, 2026 at Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas.

The call-up is Hassan’s first at senior international level for the United States, arriving roughly eight years after he led Pakistan’s Under-19 side at the 2018 U19 World Cup. That squad also featured Shaheen Shah Afridi and Musa Khan, both of whom went on to represent Pakistan at the highest level. Hassan, who turns 28 on October 16, 2026, has since relocated and qualified to represent the USA.

The tri-series holds direct relevance to USA’s preparation for the World Cup Qualifiers scheduled for February 2027, making every match in Dallas a meaningful step in that build-up.

What form has Hassan Khan shown in Major League Cricket to earn this recognition?

Hassan’s performances across two MLC seasons with San Francisco Unicorns built a compelling case for international selection. In the 2024 edition, he scored 204 runs at an average of 40.80 and a strike rate of 143.66, while also picking up 10 wickets at an average of 17.36. That all-round contribution earned him the MLC Domestic Player of the Year award for 2024.

He raised his batting tempo considerably in the 2025 season, striking 225 runs at a strike rate of 187.50 across 11 innings and clearing the boundary 17 times. Across both MLC campaigns combined, Hassan accumulated 429 runs from 262 balls, with 30 sixes in total. The consistency of his contributions with bat and ball across two seasons made his case for a USA call-up difficult to overlook.

How does Hassan Khan’s broader cricket background shape his USA debut opportunity?

Hassan’s route to a USA senior cap covers two countries and spans the better part of a decade. After captaining Pakistan at Under-19 level in 2018, he continued competing at a high standard before eventually qualifying to represent the United States. In 2026, he also featured for Hyderabad Kingsmen in the Pakistan Super League, confirming that his appetite for top-level competition remains strong.

His arrival in the squad adds a different dimension to the USA middle order and bowling attack, given that Ali Khan’s role was primarily as a pace bowler. The Grand Prairie Stadium fixtures against UAE and Namibia offer Hassan an immediate platform to establish himself ahead of the February 2027 qualifiers.
