Former India cricketer Harbhajan Singh opened up on the current status of Royal Challengers Bengaluru in IPL 2024 and opined that the star cricketer Virat Kohli should once again take up the baton and lead the franchise in the coming editions. In 2024, RCB managed to win only one out of their first seven matches and were on the verge of elimination but with a series of wins, they have turned their fortune but a place in the qualifiers is not yet guaranteed.

Even if RCB makes it to the qualifiers, there’s a massive possibility of an overhaul ahead of the mega auction next year. Keeping that in mind, Harbhajan opined that Kohli should take control once again and the franchise needs an Indian face to lead them. Bhajji, as he is popularly known, cited the example of MS Dhoni and believes that Kohli has the same aura that can inspire RCB to produce better performances.

“If they don’t qualify, they should look to get some Indian guy. Why not bring Virat Kohli back as captain. As Dhoni has a lot of impact in Chennai, Virat Kohli is a big leader, he knows the kind of cricket they need to play. Now they are playing with a lot of aggression, lot of intent and that is what Virat Kohli brings. I would like to see Virat Kohli leading the side going forward,” Harbhajan said on Star Sports.

Meanwhile, Kohli once again had a splendid season with the bat. In 13 matches so far, the 35-year-old has made 661 runs at a strike rate of 155.16 and is also the leading run-scorer of the tournament.

On the other hand, as things stand, RCB are fifth on the points table with 12 points to their name in 13 matches. To make it to the playoffs, the Faf du Plessis-led side needs to beat Chennai Super Kings in their final league of the season and will also have to keep an eye on Delhi Capitals, Lucknow Super Giants and Sunrisers Hyderabad.
