The inaugural edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) will begin on Saturday, March 4. Gujarat Giants will take on Mumbai Indians in the tournament opener at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai.

The tournament might have seen an early controversy ahead of its start with Deandra Dottin being ruled out of the first season. The West Indies all-rounder was bought by Gujarat Giants Women in the inaugural WPL Player Auction which was held on February 13.

As per a report in ESPNCricinfo, the franchise, on Friday, announced that Dottin will miss the inaugural season because she is recovering from a medical situation.

Surprisingly, Dottin, on her official Instagram account, quashed the reports through one of her stories. The 31-year-old shared a screenshot of a report that confirmed that she was ruled out of the tournament. Along with this, she posted a question in her Instagram story when a user tagged her saying ‘Get well soon’.

“Get well soon from what if I may ask?” Dottin wrote in her Instagram story.

Dottin also took to Twitter and denied any medical condition.

“I really appreciate all the messages but truth be told I’m recovering from nothing but the Holy Ghost anointing thank you #GodIsGood #GodIsInControl,” she tweeted.

As Dottin was ruled out of the tournament, Australia’s Kim Garth was named as her replacement in the Gujarat Giants squad. Notably, she was unsold in the player auction. The 26-year-old all-rounder was part of the Meg Lanning-led side that were crowned the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in South Africa recently.

The all-rounder only played two warm-up games before the World Cup. After that, she relocated to Australia and signed a three-year contract with the Melbourne Stars in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL). However, she joined the Giants’ practice squad on Friday, March 3. The side will be captained by Australia opener Beth Mooney. Mooney had won the Player of the Match Award in the final of the T20 World Cup.
