Fraser Sheat joins Nottinghamshire for five-match stint

Fraser Sheat has signed for Nottinghamshire as an overseas player for a five-match stint that will run until the end of the season. He will link up with the team in the coming days.

The Canterbury bowler brings significant first-class experience to Trent Bridge, having claimed more than 150 first-class wickets at an average of 27.39. He previously played for Glamorgan in 2024 and has represented Canterbury in domestic cricket. Sheat is a vetern of 51 first-class matches. He is also a handy batter, who has a batting average of 20.71 in first-class games with three half-centuries to his name.

Sheat’s recent form earned him a call-up to the New Zealand A squad for a four-day match against Sri Lanka A in April 2026. During that fixture, he demonstrated his all-round capability by scoring an unbeaten 61 from 60 balls and removing Test-capped opener Nishan Madushka. His selection for the Nottinghamshire stint reflects the club’s confidence in his ability to contribute across the final five matches of the season.

“When I heard Nottinghamshire were interested, I was really keen to get the deal done, and I’m excited by the opportunity. Having experienced English cricket before, I can’t wait to get back over and join up with the team at Trent Bridge,” said Sheat in a statement released by the club.

“I feel like my game has really developed recently, and I’m excited to test myself even more in Division One of the Championship over in England. I know the standards that Nottinghamshire set, and with the boys in such a good position heading into the final few games, I’ll be looking to contribute as much as I can,” he added.

Nottinghamshire Head Coach Peter Moores oversaw the signing as the club seeks to maintain its title defence. Sheat’s arrival adds depth to the bowling attack during a crucial period of the domestic season.

“Six games in six weeks is a heavy workload in the last part of this season and to have depth in our seam bowling will be key to staying competitive in every game,” Moores said.

“This feels like a great opportunity for Fraser, and we can’t wait to have him as part of the squad moving forward,” he concluded.
