Former Zimbabwe international Guy Whittall and his dog, Chikara, escaped a leopard attack when they were trekking through the conservancy that he runs in the Humani region. Notably, this wasn’t the first time when Whittall escaped from a bizarre scene. In September 2013, an eight-feet crocodile was spotted sleeping under his bed at home and interestingly, reports then suggested that the former cricketer slept the entire night with his legs dangling off the bed.

Meanwhile, Whittall’s wife shared the recent incident on Facebook and stated that the former cricketer was stabilised at Hippo Clinic. He was later airlifted to Buffalo Range and then was transferred to Milton Park Hospital in Harare. She added that Whittall has lost a lot of blood because of the attack and will undergo surgery on April 26.

“Guy’s run in with a wounded leopard earlier today. We are very fortunate that he was stabilized at Hippo Clinic by wonderful staff. He was then airlifted from Buffalo Range by ace ambulance to Harare, then transferred to Milton Park Hospital for treatment. He is currently awaiting surgery tomorrow morning as he lost a lot of blood today,” she posted on Facebook.

His wife also credited Chikara and mentioned that the dog would visit the vet after being injured by the leopard.

“Our faithful K9 Chikara, his handler and trackers. Chikara coming up tomorrow to the vet after being mauled by the leopard and getting the cat off Guy! Very special boy,” she wrote.

Notably, the 51-year-old made his international debut against Sri Lanka on November 15, 1993, in Patna in the Hero Cup. He made 36 runs off 33 deliveries as Sri Lanka won by 55 runs. Just a few days later, on December 1, he made his Test debut against Pakistan at Karachi. He went on to play 46 Test matches in his career, scoring 2207 runs, while he represented Zimbabwe in 147 ODIs and scored 2705 runs at an average of 22.54.
