Former cricketer Aakash Chopra duped of Rs 33 lakh by shoe businessman

In a recent development, former Indian cricketer and renowned commentator Aakash Chopra has filed a First Information Report (FIR) against shoe businessman Kamlesh Parikh and his son Dhruv Parikh. The FIR has been registered under IPC section 406, which deals with criminal breach of trust. Chopra alleges that the Parikhs deceived him by promising investment in a sports shoe business.

The FIR lodged at the Hariparwat police station, Chopra had given Dhruv Parikh a sum of Rs 57.8 lakh for investment in their sports shoe business. 

A formal agreement was made, stating that Dhruv would return the money within 30 days with a 20% profit. Post-dated cheques were provided for recovery. However, after a year, only Rs 24.5 lakh was returned, and two cheques were dishonoured.

Despite attempts to resolve the issue through legal notices, the Parikhs failed to fulfil their obligations. This has left Chopra with the task of recovering the principal amount of Rs 33.3 lakh.

“We entered into a formally notarised agreement which stipulated that Dhruv was to return the money within 30 days with a 20% profit, and post-dated cheques were provided for recovery. However, a year later, only Rs 24.5 lakh has been returned, and two issued cheques were dishonoured,” the FIR, citing Chopra, said as quoted by Time of India.

“I spoke to Dhruv’s father, Kamlesh, and he promised to honour the agreement on his son’s behalf but failed to do so. Legal notices were served, but both father and son ceased communication, making the recovery of the principal amount, Rs 33.3 lakh, a challenge,” Chopra alleged.

Station House Officer Arvind Kumar confirmed that the provided documents and evidence are being examined, and further action will be taken after the investigation. The accused will also be summoned for questioning.

This is not the first time the Parikhs have faced legal troubles. Earlier this year, they were also accused by the father of cricketer Deepak Chahar of cheating and swindling Rs 10 lakh in a supposed business venture. The complaint also mentioned verbal abuse and threats when asked to return the money.

The case is now being investigated by law enforcement, and the accused will have to answer for their alleged breach of trust. The cricketing world eagerly awaits the outcome of this legal action taken by the renowned commentator.
