‘Everything’s better since Alyssa has turned up’ – Mitchell Starc credits wife for change in fortunes at IPL 2024

Star Australian pacer Mitchell Starc was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for a mindboggling price of 24.75 crore at the IPL 2024 auctions. But the pacer had a lacklustre start to the edition as he failed to pick wickets and leaked runs like running tap water. Questions were raised on his justification for the price tag and the Aussie had his own way to answer them. Talking about his first two games, he had leaked over 100 runs without picking any wickets.

But big stages demand big hearts, and Starc disrupted all the scrutiny by picking three wickets in Qualifier 1 and becoming the Man of the Match. His newly formed momentum in IPL 2024 does not stop there as he orchestrated Sunrisers Hyderabad’s downfall in the Final on May 26. Starc credited his turnaround to his wife, Alyssa Healy, and quipped that his fortunes changed since she joined him at the later stages of IPL 2024.

“Everything’s better since Alyssa (Healy) has turned up,” Starc was quoted as saying by Star Sports.

In the Finals of IPL 2024, SRH won the toss and opted to bat first. Mitchell Starc was coming off a match-winning performance and he continued the same in the crucial clash. He rattled Abhishek Sharma’s stumps and sent Rahul Tripathi packing inside the powerplay. SRH could not recover from that point and succumbed. KKR chased the target of 114 comfortably and won their third IPL title.

“Great night for KKR. What a game, what a series, what a season. Probably the two most exciting teams in the final, it was a great night. It was an upward journey from the start of the IPL till now. We’ve had a fantastic squad of bowlers and batters, our staff have been fantastic to get everyone peaking for the back end of the tournament. We’ve been such a consistent side, we haven’t had one or two people standout, it’s been contributions from everyone,” said Starc after the conclusion of the IPL 2024 final.
