After the 4-1 domination in the T20I leg of the ongoing white-ball series, India are all set to lock horns for a three-match ODI series against England. With the momentum being on India’s side ahead of the first ODI, all eyes would be on senior batters, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. The two seasoned campaigners have been through a lean run with the bat in the past several months, and hence, there are a lot of expectations from the two in the buildup to the upcoming Champions Trophy.

The Indian skipper acknowledged the shortcomings in the past, but also emphasized the importance of being optimistic about the future.

“This is a different format, different time. As cricketers, there will be ups and downs and I have faced a lot in my career. This is nothing new to me. We know every day is a fresh day, every series is a fresh series. It’s important that I focus on what is coming up and what lies ahead for me, look to try and start this series on a high,” mentioned Rohit during the pre-match press conference, as quoted by India TV.

Don’t be quick to judge players: Rohit

Rohit also responded to questions regarding right-arm pacer, Mohammed Shami. He was candid in his praise for Shami, and urged the media to not be reactionary and arrive at hasty conclusions.

“He has not played cricket for a year-and-a-half. Don’t be quick to judge players. He has been playing cricket for the last 10–12 years and has performed for the team. He bowled so well in the World Cup (2023). If he doesn’t get the results in some domestic matches as expected, then it doesn’t make him a bad bowler,” he added.
