Veteran Australian spinner Nathan Lyon was recently announced as the latest addition to the Lancashire Cricket Club squad. Lyon will be with the squad for the 2024 season, and it could be interesting to see how the 36-year-old fares for the club.

Lyon has a bit of experience in the County Championship from when he played for Worcestershire during the 2017 season when he helped the side win the Division Two title.

Lyon’s repertoire in Test cricket needs no introduction. Having played 122 Tests for Australia, Lyon has taken a whopping 496 wickets to his name and is one of the highest wicket-takers in the format.

A three-time Ashes and 2023 World Test Championship winner, Lyon’s addition to Lancashire could prove to be a huge boost for the side. It is also worth noting that the veteran off-spinner will be arriving at Old Trafford in 2024, ahead of the next season, which is scheduled to start in April. Lyon will arrive after fulfilling his duties with the Australian 2023–24 Summer of Cricket.

This is an exciting opportunity: Lyon

Speaking of his signing with Lancashire, Nathan Lyon came forward to highlight how exciting the opportunity has been for him and how excited he is to be travelling to England and playing for a full season with them.

“This is an exciting opportunity for me, and I am really looking forward to heading over to England for a full season of county cricket with Lancashire. I love playing cricket in England. I’m keen to keep learning, keep improving my game, and hopefully, I can contribute to winning matches for the Red Rose and pass on some of the experiences that I have gained over the years throughout my career,” Nathan Lyon was quoted as saying by Lancashire Cricket.

“They have a strong squad at Lancashire, and Emirates Old Trafford is a really great venue to play cricket at, so I am looking forward to that. It will also be great to catch up with Jimmy Anderson too,” he added.
