India were forced into a change for the third and final ODI against England at Lord’s in London on Sunday, July 19, with Harsh Dubey replacing Washington Sundar in the playing squad. Sundar sustained a right hamstring injury during the second ODI at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff and has been ruled out of the remainder of the three-match series. The all-rounder will now undergo scans and seek specialist medical advice to determine the extent of the injury and the course of his rehabilitation.

India’s updated squad for the third ODI:

Shubman Gill (Captain), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer (Vice-Captain), KL Rahul (WK), Ishan Kishan (WK), Axar Patel, Shivam Dube, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna, Arshdeep Singh, Gurnoor Brar, Prince Yadav, Harsh Dubey

The series is finely poised at 1-1 after both teams registered one win each in the opening two matches. India drew first blood in the series opener at Edgbaston, Birmingham, after producing a clinical all-round performance. England, who opted to bat first after Harry Brook won the toss, got off to a promising start through Ben Duckett and Jacob Bethell, who added 61 runs for the opening wicket. However, India’s bowlers staged a remarkable comeback, reducing the hosts to 107/6 after taking five wickets for just 19 runs.

Joe Root then steadied the innings with an unbeaten 76, while Liam Dawson played a crucial supporting role with a valuable half-century as the pair added 121 runs for the seventh wicket. Their partnership helped England recover to 258 before they were bowled out in 47.5 overs.

India’s chase began poorly as Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli departed cheaply. However, Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer revived the innings with a 101-run stand. Gill retired hurt after scoring a fluent 80, allowing England to claw their way back into the contest. With India under pressure at 160/4, Axar Patel and Washington Sundar produced a match-winning unbeaten partnership of 102 runs, guiding the visitors to a comfortable six-wicket victory with 28 balls to spare.

England responded impressively in the second ODI at Cardiff to level the series. After electing to bowl first, the hosts restricted India to 233. Kohli and Shreyas scored fighting half-centuries, but England’s pace attack, led by Jofra Archer and Gus Atkinson, triggered a dramatic collapse as India lost six wickets for just 40 runs.

In reply, Jasprit Bumrah struck with the first ball of the innings to dismiss Ben Duckett, but England recovered through the experienced Joe Root. The veteran batter anchored the chase with a composed unbeaten 99, while Atkinson chipped in with an unbeaten 23 to help England secure a four-wicket win in 44.1 overs and set up a winner-takes-all decider at Lord’s.
