The Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 has reached a thrilling climax, with the series finely poised at 2-1 in favor of England as both teams prepare for the final Test at The Oval. Former England pacer Stuart Broad has shared his views on how the hosts might approach their bowling strategy in the decider.

Broad cautioned against heavy reliance on Jofra Archer, suggesting that after a four-year absence, England should be careful not to overburden him and risk another prolonged period out of the game. Instead, he highlighted the opportunity for Gus Atkinson to feature in the final match, pointing out that although Atkinson has not had a significant workload, exposing him to high-level competition could be beneficial. Broad stressed the importance of testing the pacer’s capabilities in challenging conditions to better understand his potential.

“We can’t not have Archer for four years, bring him back and then bowl him into the ground and not see him for another four years. I think Gus Atkinson has to play. I know he has not had any workload, but we need to see him. He hasn’t been really challenged against top-level opposition in Test cricket yet,” Broad said on Sky Sports.

Broad emphasised the importance of careful workload management to safeguard Archer’s long-term availability, particularly in demanding formats like Test cricket. Archer made a much-anticipated return to Test cricket during the ongoing series against India, following a lengthy injury hiatus.

After battling a series of frustrating elbow and back injuries, Archer’s comeback marked a significant milestone for both the player and England. He showcased impressive form at Lord’s and Old Trafford.

Archer has claimed nine wickets across 88.3 overs in the series so far at an average of 28.67. The figure reflects his impressive control despite the long layoff. Archer’s raw pace has created pressure on the opposition, enabling him to make key breakthroughs at crucial moments.
