ENG vs IND 2025: Rishabh Pant becomes India’s joint-second-highest six-hitter in Tests

Indian cricketer Rishabh Pant etched his name into the record books on Day 3 of the third Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy at Lord’s by becoming the joint-second-highest six-hitter for India in Test cricket. Pant hit his 88th six when he confidently stepped down the track and lofted Shoaib Bashir’s full-length delivery over mid-off for a maximum.

With that shot, Pant equalled former India captain Rohit Sharma and now trails only Virender Sehwag, who leads the Indian charts with 90 sixes in red-ball internationals. Among all international players, England’s Ben Stokes currently tops the overall list with 133 sixes in his storied Test career.

Pant also brought up his half-century on the third morning of the Lord’s Test and has scored more than 3,000 Test runs so far. His 88 sixes have come in just 80 innings, a remarkable feat, while maintaining an impressive average of 45.36.

India resumed Day 3 with positive intent, and Pant formed a solid partnership with KL Rahul to revive the innings. The pair added 141 runs in 198 balls, steering India towards stability after some quick wickets fell at the end of Day 2. Pant looked fluent throughout his innings, scoring 74 off 112 balls before being run out in the final over before lunch.

The dismissal came as a result of a misjudged single. In an attempt to help Rahul reach his century, Pant pushed for a risky run, only to be caught short of his crease by a sharp direct hit from England skipper Ben Stokes at the non-striker’s end.

At the lunch break, India were 248 for 4, with KL Rahul unbeaten on 98. While India largely controlled the session, England gained a crucial breakthrough just before the interval. The visitors still trail by 139 runs with six wickets in hand, and the match remains finely poised as both teams look to gain the upper hand.
