ENG vs IND 2025: ECB awaits update on extent of Chris Woakes’ injury

ENG vs IND 2025 ECB awaits update on extent of Chris Woakes' injury

The magnitude of Chris Woakes‘ injury is yet to be revealed to the England and Wales Cricket Board. The confirmation on when he could possibly return to cricket will be presented to head coach Brendon McCullum and the team management in a few days.

McCullum wished for Woakes’ injury to not be as bad as it seemed to be. For the unversed, he has reportedly sustained a dislocation to his left shoulder. This occurred after he landed on his shoulder awkwardly while attempting to stop the ball to travel to the boundary.

“We hope the injury is not too bad, but we will have to work that out over the next week or so,” stated McCullum, as quoted by BBC.

The former Kiwi cricketer praised Woakes’ brave behaviour of going out to bat to help his team out after England’s ninth wicket had fallen.

“Woakesy came to me in the first innings and said ‘do you want me to bat?’ It was within 24 hours of it happening and he was in an immense amount of pain. It’s what you want from our players. This game is hard and takes us to some tough places, challenging us mentally and physically. Sometimes, we end up with injuries. To still want to go out and do your best for your country is what these guys are desperate to show,” added McCullum.

With the Ashes commencing from November, it seems as if it would be a race against time for Woakes to feature for England in the red-ball setup. The injury has also ruled him out from playing the 2025 edition of The Hundred.

The hosts failed to retain the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy after the six-run loss at The Oval meant India levelled the series by a 2-2 margin. Woakes bowled a total of 181 overs across nine innings in the series. The bowling all-rounder secured 11 wickets.
