The third Test between India and England at Lord’s is currently balanced, with all results still on the cards. India requires 135 more runs to win with six wickets in hand, while England needs six more wickets to register a victory. Yet, despite the situation, all-rounder Washington Sundar is confident that the visitors will wrap up the match before lunch on Day 5.

After both sides scored identical totals of 387 in their first innings, the match moved to the second innings. Thanks to an outstanding bowling effort by Sundar (4/22), India bowled England out for just 192, giving themselves a target of 193 for victory. However, the chase didn’t go as planned, with India ending Day 4 at 58 for 4. Speaking after stumps, Sundar opened up when asked about India’s chances.

“Definitely India winning tomorrow, probably in the first session. Probably just after lunch. The position that we are in right now… probably for 1 (wicket loss) at the stumps would have been ideal, but yes, the way we bowled, all the fast bowlers in particular, the way they came out today and kept the pressure going throughout the day was amazing,” he told Sky Sports.

All four of Sundar’s wickets were bowled

Sundar, who was introduced late into the second session, took 4 wickets for just 22 runs in 12.1 overs, registering the best-ever bowling figures by an Indian off-spinner in a Test innings at Lord’s. All four of his dismissals, including Joe Root, Jamie Smith, Ben Stokes, and Shoaib Bashir, were bowled.

His spell broke England’s tail, allowing India to close the innings quickly. With the pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj also chipping in with two wickets each, India restricted the hosts to a low total. However, England’s seamers, Brydon Carse, Chris Woakes, and Jofra Archer, removed India’s top order. Yashasvi Jaiswal fell to Archer, and Karun Nair, Shubman Gill, and nightwatchman Akash Deep followed soon after, with KL Rahul, unbeaten on 33.
