Dhruv Jurel is continuing his wicketkeeping duties on Day 2 of the third Test between India and England at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground in London, as Rishabh Pant is still recovering from the injury he sustained on the opening day of the clash.

For the unversed, Pant suffered an injury to his finger while trying to collect a delivery down the leg-side. The 27-year-old walked off the field on Thursday, July 10, as Jurel donned the wicketkeeping gloves.

Minutes ahead of the start of play on Day 2, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) revealed the status of Pant’s injury through a social media post. The cricket-governing body mentioned that the Indian vice-captain had copped a blow to his left index finger and is still recovering. They also informed that the BCCI medical team will keep a track of his situation and that Jurel will continue keeping wickets on Day 2.

“UPDATE: Rishabh Pant is still recovering from the hit on his left index finger. The BCCI medical team continues to monitor his progress. Dhruv Jurel will continue to keep wickets on Day 2,” the BCCI posted on its official ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) handle.

Jurel was excellent behind the stumps on Day 1. He was equally adept at keeping to the pacers as well as the spinners. The legendary Kumar Sangakkara also praised Jurel for the exceptional catch he took off Ravindra Jadeja’s bowling in the final session on the opening day to send a well-set Ollie Pope back to the hut.

The 24-year-old will look to continue his impressive work behind the stumps as India look to dismiss England for as low a total as possible on the second day.
