India ended Day 4 of the second Test at Edgbaston in a strong position, restricting England to 72/3 in their chase of 608. The visitors displayed dominant performances in all departments, initially led by Shubman Gill’s historic batting and the pace duo of Akash Deep and Mohammed Siraj picking early wickets in England’s second innings.

India’s total was built on the efforts of skipper Gill, who followed his first-innings 269 with a 161 off just 162 balls in the second innings. The hosts’ top order once again collapsed under pressure. Siraj got rid of Zak Crawley for a duck in the second over. Soon after, Akash Deep, who was brilliant in the first innings with four wickets, rattled Ben Duckett and later returned to dismiss Joe Root. At stumps, England ended on 72/3 in 16 overs, still needing 536 runs for victory. Ollie Pope (24)* and Harry Brook (15)* are set to continue their batting on the final day of the Test match.
