Tejashwi Yadav, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister, recently mustered a review meeting to address concerns about the poor state of the Moin-ul-Haq stadium in Patna. He has vowed to develop a ‘world-class’ international stadium in Bihar.

The scrutiny arose after criticism over the shabby condition of the stadium in Patna. Numerous videos depicting the shabby infrastructure of the stadium went viral on social media during the Ranji Trophy match between Bihar and Mumbai. The situation was spotlighted by posters plastered around the stadium marking danger zones. Notably, the venue also lacked proper seating arrangements, and the viewing gallery remained in a dreadful state.

Taking to his official social media platform on X (formerly Twitter), Yadav shared details of the meeting, highlighting the proposed improvements. The plans include the construction of an international stadium, along with various amenities such as a sports complex, five-star hotel, restaurant, improved drainage system, ample parking space, and the integration of the Patna Metro, among other facilities. This initiative aims to overhaul sports infrastructure in the state and rectify the shortcomings observed at the Moin-ul-Haq stadium.

“Today a review meeting related to the redevelopment and renovation of Moin-ul-Haq Stadium was held. The world class international stadium to be built here will have sports complex, five star hotel, restaurant, better drainage system, parking system, Patna Metro along with other world-class facilities. Instructions were given to complete the DPR work within two weeks and take further action. #Bihar #TejashwiYadav,” the deputy wrote on X.

Following the controversy, former India pacer Venkatesh Prasad also lambasted the Bihar Cricket Association for the stadium’s shoddy infrastructure.

Here’s Venkatesh Prasad’s X post

This is unacceptable. Ranji Trophy is the premiere domestic competition in India and it’s time all stakeholders realise it’s value. Don’t see any valid reason for the state association not rectifying this . https://t.co/BTHs6auAah

Following this, the Bihar government proposed establishing a unit to address complaints about the sports infrastructure in the state. A new unit will focus on improving the state of sports in Bihar while also carrying out other welfare initiatives for athletes, according to S Siddharth, Additional Chief Secretary of the state cabinet. Additionally, he stated that the government will support sports and guarantee that athletes compete at the highest levels on both the national and international stages.
