The Delhi Capitals finished as runners-up in the inaugural season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL), losing to the Mumbai Indians in the Final. Leading up to the second auction, Delhi aimed to capitalize on the opportunity to fill the gaps in their remaining three slots.

Out of these three slots, they could have bought two Indian players, and only one foreigner. Prior to the auction, they excluded players like Aparna Mondal, Jasia Akhter, and Tara Norris, while retaining key players such as Meg Lanning, Jemimah Rodrigues, Marizanne Kapp, and Shafali Verma.

In the previous season, the Capitals played a total of nine matches, securing victory in six of them and reaching the final. During the auction, they made one of the biggest acquisitions of the day by securing Annabel Sutherland, an Australian all-rounder, for two crores in a bidding war with the Mumbai Indians. Ashwani Kumari and Aparna Mondal were other two players bought by DC for 10 lakh, each.
