A CRPF jawan found himself in hot water after firing shots at the stumps to inaugurate a local cricket match in Ambedkarnagar, Uttar Pradesh. The episode, captured on video on March 1, quickly spread across social media platforms. Identified as Santosh Kumar Singh, the accused hails from village Ahariya Majre Khewar in UP and is stationed in Delhi. Prompted by the viral footage, senior police officials promptly launched an investigation.

Following the discovery of the pistol’s license in Singh’s possession, police have requested the district administration to revoke it. The .32 bore pistol has been confiscated, and an FIR has been filed under the Arms Act. Meanwhile, upon notification, the police have filed a case under section 25 of the Arms Act. The CRPF jawan has returned to his unit. Ambedkarnagar SP stated, ” We have sent a report to Ministry of Home Affairs headquarters to initiate action against him.”

The incident unfolded in Khenwar village under Ahirrauli police station’s jurisdiction. Santosh Singh, visiting his hometown on leave, was invited by villagers to inaugurate a cricket match. On Friday, dressed as a dignitary, Singh, seeking to impress, unlawfully discharged his licensed pistol during the ribbon-cutting ceremony. His actions aimed to showcase his authority but resulted in controversy instead.

CRPF commandant’s response awaited sighting further action

Following the circulation of the viral video, police have taken action against Santosh Kumar Singh, registering a case under section 25 of the Arms Act and notifying his commanding officer. The local authorities have initiated steps to revoke Singh’s firearm license. Reports indicate that Singh returned to his battalion on Saturday morning. Ahiroli Police Station Head Vivek Kumar affirmed that after lodging the case, necessary communication is being relayed to the concerned CRPF Commandant for further action.

According to Hindustan’s report, Bhiti’s area officer Shubham Kumar received information regarding Santosh Kumar Singh, son of Indrasen Singh, a CRPF officer from Khewar village, who had returned home. During a gathering organized by the RCC Rajput Club Khenwar on Friday, Singh inaugurated a cricket match by firing his licensed pistol to cut the ribbon, as per the sources.
