Chris Gayle set to visit Puthuppally on August 30

West Indian cricket legend Chris Gayle is scheduled to visit Puthuppally in Kerala’s Kottayam district on August 30, 2026. He is expected to arrive at 10 am and will take part in a range of cultural and sporting activities throughout the day.

Gayle’s first stop will be the grave of former Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, where he will offer floral respects. The visit carries personal and political significance for the region, given Chandy’s long association with Puthuppally as its representative.

“The aim of the visit is to bring international attention to the sports and cultural sectors of Puthuppally,” said Chandy Oommen, MLA and chairman of the organising committee as quoted by Manorama.

What is planned at the Georgian Public School ground?

After the tribute, Gayle will proceed to the Georgian Public School ground in Puthuppally for a formal public reception. The centrepiece of the event will be a procession that brings together 11 traditional art forms drawn from Puthuppally’s cultural heritage.

Among the art forms featured in the procession are Kathakali, Pulikali, Koodiyattam, Kalaripayattu, Thiruvathira, Koothu and Panjari Melam. The selection reflects the breadth of performing traditions associated with the town and its surrounding region.

The occasion will also mark the unveiling of the official logo of the Puthuppally Heritage Cultural Committee. Once the cultural programme concludes, Gayle will take part in an interactive session with students, giving young attendees direct access to one of cricket’s most recognisable figures.
