Pakistan‘s World Test Championship 2025-27 campaign has reached a critical juncture following their recent defeats. With 2 wins and 4 losses from 6 Tests played, Pakistan currently hold 8 penalty points and occupy the lowest position in the standings. The mathematical path to qualification remains open, but the margin for error has vanished entirely.
The top two teams based on percentage of points at the end of the league stage will qualify for the WTC final, which concludes in June 2027. Pakistan dropped to their lowest position following their defeat to the West Indies in the first Test on July 29, 2026. The current cycle commenced in June 2025 and will run through the final in June 2027.
Remaining fixtures and qualification scenarios
Pakistan has six more Tests remaining across three series: against England away, Sri Lanka at home, and New Zealand at home. If they win all six remaining Tests, they will finish above 60 per cent. However, five wins and a draw would leave them below that range, while losing even a single game would drop the percentage to around 52 per cent, which rules them out completely. These calculations show how narrow the qualification window has become for the Asian side.

Qualification depends not only on Pakistan’s own results but also on how other top teams perform. Even if Pakistan wins their remaining series, they would still require heavy points-sharing, losses, or lower percentages from leading contenders like India, Australia, and South Africa to secure a spot in the final. The team cannot control the outcomes of matches involving these rivals, adding another layer of complexity to their qualification bid.
Their path requires near perfection in their remaining fixtures. Any further losses would make qualification mathematically improbable. The team must treat every remaining Test as essential to their tournament survival and cannot afford to drop points in any series.
