The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) posted a video on social media of the Indian men’s team’s players and head coach Gautam Gambhir wishing the women’s team all the very best for the Women’s T20 World Cup.
Harmanpreet Kaur and Co. won the Women’s ODI World Cup for the first time last year. This year, they have a chance to lift their maiden T20 World Cup, which is being played in England from June 12 to July 5.
Ahead of their opening game, which is a big one against Pakistan at Edgbaston, Birmingham, on Sunday, June 14, the Women in Blue got special messages from the likes of Shubman Gill, Rohit Sharma, Shreyas Iyer, and Gambhir.
”They’ve been playing really good cricket for the past few years now. I know in T20 cricket they’ve come very close, but I want this time around to go all the way. Everyone’s rooting for them. They have a solid team, very well-balanced team, and they’ll enjoy playing in England. Best wishes from all of us here in Men’s Team India,” Rohit said in the video.
Meanwhile, Gambhir urged them to take the positive rout whenever in doubt and not be scared of making a mistake.
“ I’m sure that you’re gonna make 140 crore Indian proud. Many, not many people get the opportunity to represent the country at the world stage. Don’t be scared of making a mistake. Every time you’re in doubt, take the positive route. Good luck. Bring the cup home,” Gambhir mentioned.
Test and ODI skipper Gill also highlighted the fact that India have made the country proud in the past and can do it again over the next few weeks.
”You guys have won it before and you’ll do it again. Our full wishes to you and all the best for the World Cup,” Gill stated.
Meanwhile, Shreyas advised the Indian women’s team to play fearless and ruthless cricket at the marquee event.
“ Here’s wishing all the very best to the Indian women’s cricket team. Be fearless, be ruthless, and play to win,” T20I captain Shreyas said.
Wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan urged the Indian women’s team to keep things simple and keep faith in the things that have brought them success this season.
“ I think just to take it as another game. You all have been doing so good throughout the season, I feel. You have been playing amazing cricket. So just keep it simple, trust what you have done throughout the year, and I think things will just fall into place if you keep it simple. And we all are very proud of you all, and we hope we win this trophy,” Kishan stated.
