The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is currently evaluating a proposal from the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) to send an India A team for a series in Kathmandu.
According to reports, the proposal has been received by the Indian board, although a final decision is yet to be made. If approved, the tour would further strengthen the cricketing relationship between India and Nepal, which has grown steadily over the last few years.
As per Sportstar, the two boards have shared a healthy partnership in recent times. Ahead of the T20 World Cup Qualifiers last year, Nepal’s men’s team underwent training at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. The initiative was supported by the Indian government as part of broader efforts to promote sporting and youth exchanges between the neighbouring nations.
Apart from the Nepal proposal, the BCCI is also discussing the possibility of extending India’s upcoming tour of Sri Lanka in August.
The Indian team is currently scheduled to play a two-match Test series in Sri Lanka. However, sources have revealed that talks are ongoing regarding the addition of a three-match T20 series after the conclusion of two-match multi-day series in the island nation.
With a gap of nearly two weeks available before the senior Indian men’s team’s next international assignment, the board is assessing whether extra white-ball fixtures can be accommodated during the tour. Meanwhile, India’s planned limited-overs tour of Bangladesh in September remains uncertain.
The BCCI had earlier stated that the tour would be subject to approval from the Indian government. As things stand, there is no official clarity on whether the Indian team will travel to Bangladesh for the scheduled series.
The coming weeks are expected to provide more clarity on all three matters as the BCCI finalises its international calendar for the remainder of the season.
Meanwhile, the Indian team will be travelling to Ireland for two T20Is and will also play a white-ball series against England in the United Kingdom in July.
