BCCI AND ICC officials visit Eden Gardens to inspect World Cup 2023 preparations

The ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 beginning from October 05 will be the first ever World Cup being hosted completely in India. Ahead of the mega event, representatives from the International Cricket Council (ICC) and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) visited Kolkata on Sunday, to inspect the iconic Eden Gardens stadium which will be hosting several high-profile clashes.

Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) chief Snehasis Ganguly revealed that the ICC and BCCI officials did a complete inspection of the ground and are satisfied with the work being done at Eden Gardens ahead of the Cricketing extravaganza.

“ICC were happy with the work progress. They visited every corner of the stadium and expressed happiness with the renovation work. They were also happy with the work being done at the new player’s dressing room, hospitality box, corporate box, and the already completed Press Box and Media Centre,” Ganguly was quoted as saying by Xtratime.

The ICC team will make a second visit to the venue during the first week of September to further assess the preparations ahead of the mega event. Notably, the historic venue will witness five games during the tournament namely Netherlands vs Bangladesh (October 28), Bangladesh vs Pakistan (October 31), India vs South Africa (November 05), England vs Pakistan (November 12) and the second semi-final on November 16.

Kolkata Police informs CAB about security deployment issue during ENG vs PAK match

However, according to reports, there are dark clouds hovering over the England vs Pakistan game scheduled on November 12 as Kolkata Police has informed CAB that security deployment could be an issue for the match. Pakistan already has concerns regarding the security in India before giving assent to send their players for the mega event.

Recently, India vs Pakistan game has been also rescheduled to October 14 due to security concerns in Ahmedabad on the first day of Navratri. BCCI secretary Jay Shah informed about the possible changes in the World Cup schedule on July 27 and stated that some nations have also requested schedule changes.
