BAN vs IRE 2025: Bangladesh name 15-member T20I squad; no place for Taskin, Shamim

Bangladesh have included Mohammad Saifuddin and Mahidul Islam Ankon in their squad for the first two T20Is of the three-match series against Ireland. The duo replaced Taskin Ahmed and Shamim Hossain from the squad that faced West Indies last month. All three matches will be held in Chattogram on November 27, 29, and December 2.

Saifuddin recently featured in the T20I series against Afghanistan in Sharjah, where Bangladesh completed a 3-0 sweep. Ankon, meanwhile, is uncapped in T20Is but has represented Bangladesh in one Test and three ODIs.

Chief selector Gazi Ashraf Hossain stated that Taskin was unavailable for selection as he is currently participating in the Abu Dhabi T10 league. He added that Shamim has been left out for this series as the team looks to test alternative options ahead of a busy international schedule.

“Taskin has an NOC, so he is not available to us currently. We know that he will play for Bangladesh whenever we ask him to, but we are well aware of the plans. We haven’t considered Shamim Hossain for the first two T20Is. We have picked Mahidul Islam so that we can try someone in the top four,” said Hossain as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

Earlier, Bangladesh clinched the two-match Test series convincingly. They won the first Test by an innings and 47 runs, highlighted by Mahmudul Hasan Joy’s superb 171. In the second Test, the hosts secured a dominant 217-run victory, with Mushfiqur Rahim scoring 106 and an unbeaten 53 across the two innings. Taijul Islam was named Player of the Series for his eight wickets and also became the fastest Bangladeshi bowler to reach 250 Test wickets.
