Cricket Australia and the BCCI have formalised a bilateral umpire exchange arrangement for the 2026-27 season, with Australian official Ben Treloar appointed to stand in two Ranji Trophy fixtures. Under the same program, Indian umpire Parashar Joshi will travel to Australia to cover two Sheffield Shield matches and one One Day Cup game, giving both boards’ domestic officials first-class cross-border experience.

Treloar’s first Ranji Trophy assignment is the Delhi versus Gujarat fixture, running from October 18 to 21, 2026. He will then stand in the Mumbai versus Haryana match, scheduled from October 26 to 29, 2026. The two appointments place him at the heart of the Ranji Trophy’s opening rounds, where conditions and playing styles differ considerably from Australian domestic cricket.

Joshi’s Australian schedule begins with the Queensland versus Tasmania Sheffield Shield match at the Gabba, from November 11 to 14, 2026. He will then officiate a One Day Cup match on November 16, 2026, before concluding his tour with the New South Wales versus Queensland Sheffield Shield match at the Sydney Cricket Ground, from November 22 to 25, 2026.

What does Ben Treloar bring to Indian domestic cricket?

Treloar carries a substantial officiating record into his Ranji Trophy appointments. Across his career he has stood in 30 first-class matches, 20 List A matches and 39 Big Bash League games. He has additionally officiated in two Women’s ODIs and four Women’s T20Is, reflecting experience across multiple formats and playing environments.

Beyond his on-field duties, Treloar holds the position of Umpire Education Officer at Cricket New South Wales, a role focused on developing the next generation of officials. His contributions to umpire development have been recognised with four George Borwick Memorial Awards from the New South Wales Cricket Umpires and Scorers Association, underlining the standing he holds within Australian officiating circles.

What is Parashar Joshi’s background ahead of his Australian assignments?

Joshi joined the BCCI’s umpire panel in 2015 and has since built a steady domestic record. His career figures show 9 first-class matches, 24 List A matches and 30 T20 matches as an umpire, giving him a broad base of experience across Indian domestic formats before this overseas posting.

Away from cricket, Joshi is known for having competed in the preliminary rounds of Indian Idol 4 in 2008, an unusual footnote that predates his professional officiating career by several years. His three Australian assignments across Sheffield Shield and One Day Cup cricket will represent the most prominent cross-border exposure of his umpiring career to date.
