Alyssa Healy gave herself a fitting farewell to 50-over cricket by scoring a blistering century in the third ODI against India at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart on Sunday, March 1. The Aussies won the match by 409 runs to complete a whitewash in the ODI leg of the multi-format series.

After Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and opted to bowl first, Kashvee Gautam drew first blood for India, sending Phoebe Litchfield back in the hut in the sixth over. However, Alyssa Healy and Georgia Voll joined forces to stitch a 104-run stand.

After Voll departed for a 52-ball 62, Beth Mooney joined her captain and forged a 145-run partnership off 92 deliveries. Healy smashed 158 off 98 balls, and Mooney went on to finish unbeaten on 106 off 84 deliveries as Australia posted a whopping 409/7.

In reply, India lost the talismanic Smriti Mandhana’s wicket in the second over, and despite enterprising cameos from Pratika Rawal and Jemimah Rodrigues, the mountain was too high to scale. Several Indian batters got starts but departed when they tried to up the ante.

Sneh Rana and Deepti Sharma showed defiance during a 63-run stand for the eighth wicket. The former top-scored for India with a 74-ball 44. The Women in Blue were bowled out for 224, losing the match by 185 runs.

Top batting performance: Alyssa Healy

The Australian captain took the Indian bowlers to the cleaners on Sunday. Healy brought up her century in just 79 balls but cut loose afterwards. She went from 100 to 150 in just 16 balls. In the end, she finished with a score of 158 off 98 balls, belting 27 fours and two sixes. The wicketkeeper-batter finished her knock with an impressive strike rate of 161.22.

Top bowling performance: Alana King

The experienced Australian leg-spinner, Alana King, was the top performer with the ball on Sunday. On a belter of a track, King finished with excellent figures of 4/33 in her 10-over spell. The 30-year-old accounted for the wickets of Harmanpreet Kaur, Deepti Sharma, Richa Ghosh, and Kashvee Gautam. Her spell also included a maiden.

Who was the Player of the Match?

No prizes for guessing the Player of the Match in this one-sided clash. Healy won the award for her 98-ball 158. She was well in the hunt to score a double century because when she got out, Australia had another 13.3 overs to bat in the first innings. Nonetheless, Healy would enter the one-off Test high on confidence, a fixture which marks the end of her playing career.

When is the next match?

The next match between India and Australia is the one-off Test at the Optus Stadium in Perth, starting on Friday, March 6. Australia have already taken an unassailable 8-4 lead in the multi-format series despite losing the T20I leg 1-2.
