Who won India vs Australia 3rd ODI today? — Match result & turning points

India secured a clinical victory over Australia in the 3rd ODI at Sydney, winning by 9 wickets with 69 balls to spare. Australia, after winning the toss and opting to bat, managed only 236 all out in 46.4 overs. Mitchell Renshaw top-scored with 56, while Harshit Ranas four-wicket haul (4/39) was the pick of the bowlers. He was well supported by spells from Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, and Mohammed Siraj. Chasing 237, India got off to a blazing start, scoring 68 without loss in the first 10 overs. Shubman Gill fell for 24, bringing the duo of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli together. Rohit was in sublime form, scoring 121* off 125 balls, while Kohli remained unbeaten on 74, surpassing Kumar Sangakkara to become the second-highest ODI run-scorer. Their unbeaten 168-run partnership guided India home, providing a consolation win and avoiding a series whitewash.

Top batting performances of the match — Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma looked at his vintage best as he guided India home with a solid unbeaten 121 off 125 balls in the final game of the series. The former India captain made the chase look easy. His 33rd ODI century and 50th international ton came with Virat Kohli at the other end, as the duo rolled back the years with a partnership. With this knock, Rohit also became the overseas batter with the most ODI centuries in Australia and crossed 2,500 runs against the Aussies in ODIs.

Best bowling spells — Harshit Rana

Right-arm pacer Harshit Rana produced a career-best bowling spell of 4 for 39. Rana dismissed Alex Carey with a top-edged shot caught by Shreyas Iyer, before removing Mitchell Owen and Cooper Connolly during the middle overs. He sealed his spell with a solid yorker that sent Josh Hazlewood’s off-stump cartwheeling. Rana’s hard lengths and variation made scoring difficult, and his spell was instrumental in derailing Australia’s innings, which lost seven wickets for just 53 runs.

Records Broken and Major Milestones Achieved

Virat Kohli becomes second-highest ODI run-scorer:

India’s batting stalwart Virat Kohli added another milestone to his career by becoming the second-highest run-scorer in ODIs. Kohli surpassed Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara to reach the feat and now trails only his idol, Sachin Tendulkar, who tops the list with 18,426 runs. Kohli has so far scored 14,235 runs in 305 ODIs at an average of nearly 58 and a strike rate of 93. He remains the only batter with a 50-plus average among the top ten ODI run-getters. The former India captain also holds the record for the most 50-plus scores in run chases (70), overtaking Tendulkar’s tally of 69.

Rohit Sharma registers his 50th ton across formats:

Rohit Sharma ended the Australia ODI series on a high, registering his 33rd century in the format and his 50th international ton overall. The opener looked in sublime touch and continued his momentum. With this innings, the former Indian skipper also became only the second Indian, after Sachin Tendulkar, to score over 2,500 runs in ODIs against Australia. Additionally, he achieved another feat by completing 100 catches in ODIs, joining legends like Virat Kohli, Rahul Dravid, and Tendulkar in the elite list.

Who was the Player of the Match?

India’s Rohit Sharma was awarded the Player of the Match for his unbeaten knock of 121 runs off 125 balls. The right-handed batter made easy work of the chase and partnered with Virat Kohli to take the team over the line. Notably, he was also named the Player of the Series for his 202 runs in three innings.

Unforgettable moments from AUS vs IND, 3rd ODI

During the third ODI against Australia at the SCG, Virat Kohli was seen grabbing India captain Shubman Gill by the arm and pulling him into a brief discussion with wicketkeeper KL Rahul. The moment, which lasted barely 10 seconds, saw Kohli’s proactive approach on the field, bringing his vast experience as India’s former captain into play. Gill was all ears as Kohli shared his inputs.

What is the next match?

With the three-match series ending with Australia winning by a 2-1 margin against India, both teams will now head for the five-match T20I series. The first contest will be played at Manuka Oval in Canberra on October 29.
