Australia used up both of their reviews in pursuit of Indian opener Rohit Sharma’s wicket during the second ODI on October 23 at Adelaide Oval. Australian skipper Mitchell Marsh won the toss and opted to field first, putting the visitors under immediate pressure.

Josh Hazlewood started strongly, troubling the Indian top order with his pace and bounce, reducing the visitors to modest scores inside the powerplay while the team claiming two early wickets. In the sixth over, Hazlewood bowled to Rohit, who attempted a leg-side slog but missed, with the ball striking his pads.

The Australians appealed for leg before wicket and went for a review. On the broadcast, there appeared to be no edge, but the ultra-edge technology showed a spike near the bat. Replays, however, suggested no contact with the bat, and Australia lost their first review.

Hazlewood struck again in the 12th over, delivering a seam-up ball with extra bounce. Rohit left a bat-pad gap while attempting a punch, and a faint sound prompted wicketkeeper Alex Carey and Hazlewood to signal for a review.

Replays showed the sound came from the back pocket rather than the bat, and Australia lost their second review. Despite these missed opportunities, the hosts maintained dominance, having already taken two crucial wickets inside the first ten overs.

Xavier Bartlett bowled a brilliant seventh over against Shubman Gill. Gill shuffled down the pitch to play a ground shot but misjudged the delivery, chipping a catch to Marsh at mid-off. Bartlett then struck gold in the same over, dismissing Virat Kohli for a four-ball duck. The former Indian captain was trapped plumb lbw by a sharply-nipped back-of-a-length delivery, with ball-tracking confirming it would have hit middle stump.

By the end of the powerplay, Australia were well on top of the game, having put the Indian batting line-up under immense pressure. The hosts are currently leading the three-match ODI series 1-0, hoping to win this game and seal off the series in front of the home crowd.
