Fielding has become a key aspect in cricket, especially in the shortest format of the game, where every run is crucial. In the early 2000s, teams generally had one or two outstanding fielders in their ranks. However, times have changed, as players take fielding as seriously as the other two facets of the game.

In the 2025 Asia Cup, there are several cricketers who can light up the tournament with their exemplary fielding skills. On this note, CricTracker has a look at three such players participating in this edition of the Asia Cup, who could be considered unsung fielding heroes.

Pakistan have historically not been known for having exceptional fielders in their setup. In recent times, Shadab Khan did make a mark. However, in the current team, Saim Ayub is a very good fielder, known for his fitness and agility. He can also cover a lot of ground in quick time and has safe hands as well. The left-handed batter rarely drops catches. In 113 T20 matches, he has taken 50 catches.

2. Sanju Samson

The Indian cricket team has several world-class fielders in their ranks. Sanju Samson, however, is among the most underrated fielders in the cricket-crazy nation. The Kerala cricketer is equally adept at keeping wickets as well as fielding in the outfield. Samson’s magnificent with his anticipation. He is a pretty good captain and knows how to think on his feet. This ability helps him when he is fielding. The 30-year-old can make quick decisions, and they are mostly correct.

1. Kamindu Mendis

Kamindu Mendis has not only established himself as one of the most talented young batters in modern-day cricket, but he is also showing massive improvements as a fielder in every series. The catch he took during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 fixture between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk on April 25 deserves a lot more credit than it received. Kamindu is supremely fit and can do well, inside the circle as well as on the boundary ropes.
