Ben Stokes-led England earned their first win of the five-match Ashes series at Headingley in Leeds in the third Test. Despite the thrilling win, England are still 1-2 down in the series and will need to amp up their game in order to get back on level terms in the forthcoming red-ball contest.
The two sides will lock horns for the fourth Test on Wednesday, July 19, at Old Trafford in Manchester. Prior to the contest, the ECB selection committee announced the playing XI for the crucial clash as seasoned pacer James Anderson made his way back into the setup for what could likely be his final Test at home.
The Three Lions will be raring to keep the momentum intact, however, the Aussies will aim to make a resounding comeback and take an unassailable lead to clinch the series. While the Aussies have not won an away Ashes since 2001, a victory in the upcoming Test could help them break the streak.
On the other hand, the English side have failed to win the trophy since 2015 and will be hopeful to pull off two back-to-back wins in the forthcoming Tests. Another thrilling affair is likely to be on the cards and both sides will be gunning for a result in their favour.
Pitch and conditions
The surface at Old Trafford in Manchester offers favourable conditions for the batters as the ball comes on to the bat well. The wicket also provides ample amount of bounce which could help the pacers. Spinners are likely to play a vital role as the game progresses.
