The West Indies’ spin regular Akeal Hosein and Pakistan left-arm wrist spinner Sufyan Moqim have been named in Perth Scorchers XI’s squad for the 2026 Global Super League, as the six-time Big Bash League champions prepare for their maiden appearance in the tournament.

The third edition of the Global Super League is scheduled from July 23 to August 1 at Providence Stadium in Guyana, featuring five franchise teams from the world’s leading T20 competitions. The Scorchers join reigning champions Guyana Amazon Warriors, Lahore Qalandars, Desert Vipers and debutants San Francisco Unicorns in the round-robin competition, with teams competing for a US$1 million prize pool.

Regular captain Ashton Turner will lead Perth Scorchers XI in Guyana, with pace spearhead Jhye Richardson and all-rounder Aaron Hardie also confirmed in the squad. With Adam Voges committed to Trent Rockets in The Hundred, Simon Katich steps in as stand-in head coach.

When does Perth Scorchers XI’s inaugural GSL campaign begin?

The Scorchers open their GSL debut against Lahore Qalandars on Thursday, July 23 at Providence Stadium. They will then face the San Francisco Unicorns on Sunday, July 26, the Desert Vipers on Tuesday, July 28, and the Guyana Amazon Warriors on Wednesday, July 29. The top-placed team at the end of the group stage advances directly to the final, with the second and third-placed sides meeting in a qualifier.

What experience do Akeal Hosein and Sufyan Moqim bring to the Scorchers XI?

Hosein is a key figure in the West Indies white-ball setup and one of the most reliable left-arm spinners in franchise cricket, having featured in leagues across the globe. The 32-year-old brings control and experience to a Scorchers XI that is already well-equipped with Richardson’s pace. Moqim, a rare left-arm wrist spinner, made his T20 International debut for Pakistan in October 2023 and has since become a consistent pick for Peshawar Zalmi in the PSL.

Perth become the third Australian franchise to feature in the Global Super League, following Cricket Victoria and the Hobart Hurricanes. Guyana Amazon Warriors are the defending champions, having won the 2025 title, while Rangpur Riders claimed the inaugural edition in 2024.
