The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has paid tribute to former fast bowler Shapoor Zadran, one of the pioneers of Afghanistan cricket, following his passing. The board also shared details of the funeral arrangements through an official statement on social media.
According to the ACB, Zadran’s mortal remains arrived in Kabul on Wednesday, July 08, where he was received at Kabul International Airport by current and former Afghanistan cricketers, ACB officials, members of his family, and several dignitaries.
The board announced that the funeral prayer for the former left-arm pacer will be offered at 10:00 AM on Thursday, July 09, at the Eidgah Mosque in Kabul. Following the prayers, he will be laid to rest at Maranjan Hill, with family members, friends, teammates, and members of Afghanistan’s cricket fraternity expected to attend the burial ceremony.
“The mortal remains of the late Afghanistan fast bowler, Shapoor Zadran, arrived in Kabul today, where former and current national team players, ACB officials, members of his family, and distinguished dignitaries gathered at Kabul International Airport to receive him. The funeral prayer for the late Shapoor Zadran will be offered tomorrow at 10:00 AM at Eidgah Mosque in Kabul. Following the prayer, he will be laid to rest at Maranjan Hill in a burial ceremony attended by family, friends, teammates, and members of Afghanistan’s cricket fraternity,” the ACB posted on X.

Zadran was one of the most recognisable figures during Afghanistan’s remarkable rise in international cricket. Known for his tall frame and long run-up, the left-arm fast bowler played a key role in establishing Afghanistan on the global stage.
The 6’2″ pacer represented Afghanistan in 44 ODIs and 36 T20Is between 2009 and 2020, claiming 80 international wickets across the two formats.
One of the standout moments of his career came during the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup, where he finished as Afghanistan’s leading wicket-taker with 10 wickets. He also represented the country in four ICC Men’s T20 World Cups between 2010 and 2016, picking up nine wickets.
