Abhishek Sharma’s father spotted in SRH jersey amid franchise exit rumours

Raj Kumar Sharma, the father and first coach of Abhishek Sharma, gave a media interaction on Saturday, October 3, while wearing a Sunrisers Hyderabad jersey. The appearance drew immediate attention because it came at a time when reports were circulating that Abhishek is unhappy with SRH and is exploring a move away from the franchise ahead of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2027.

The timing of Raj Kumar Sharma’s choice of attire has prompted questions, given that multiple outlets had reported just a day earlier that Abhishek Sharma was seeking a release from SRH. Whether the jersey appearance was a deliberate show of loyalty to the franchise or simply coincidental has not been confirmed.

Abhishek Sharma has been associated with Sunrisers Hyderabad since 2019 and has established himself as an aggressive opening batsman and a key part of the franchise’s batting lineup. His long association with the side makes the exit speculation particularly notable.

Why is Abhishek Sharma reportedly unhappy with SRH?

Reports from TOI suggest that Abhishek’s unhappiness with Sunrisers Hyderabad stems from the franchise’s captaincy plans for IPL 2027. SRH are said to be considering handing the captaincy to Ishan Kishan, while Abhishek Sharma reportedly has captaincy ambitions of his own.

The captaincy situation at SRH has arisen partly because Pat Cummins is expected to be unavailable for parts of the 2027 season due to international commitments, prompting the franchise to plan a transition in leadership.

It is important to note that these reports remain unresolved. SRH CEO K Shanmugam has denied the exit reports, calling them ‘not true’. No official confirmation of any formal communication from Abhishek Sharma to the franchise about his unhappiness has emerged.

Which franchises have been linked with Abhishek Sharma?

Reports have named Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Titans, Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals as potential destinations for Abhishek should he seek a move away from the Hyderabad-based team ahead of the upcomingthe Indian season of the IPL.

However, the same reports clarify that only informal conversations have taken place between Abhishek Sharma and multiple franchises, with no substantial development having emerged from those discussions. The situation therefore remains fluid and unconfirmed at this stage.

The timeline for SRH’s retention and release decisions ahead of IPL 2027 has also not been officially announced, meaning the full picture of Abhishek’s future at the franchise is yet to become clear.
