The 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) auction saw 332 players going under the hammer and 72 finding buyers. Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, and Daryl Mitchell became the costliest players while Steven Smith, Josh Hazlewood, Adil Rashid, and Phil Salt made it to the unsold chart.

Some domestic names also bagged eye-grabbing deals at the massive business event due to their extraordinary cricketing brilliance. Their base prices were under 1 crore but their domestic performances convinced buyers to splurge big money on them. Discussing more, let’s look at five uncapped players who attracted 20x bids from their maximum reserved amount.

Here are five uncapped players who gained 15x their base price in IPL 2024 auction:

5. Shahrukh Khan (18.5x)

Shahrukh Khan registered his name for the auction after getting released from Punjab Kings (PBKS) in November. His base amount was INR 40 lakh but the bidding battle between PBKS and Gujarat Titans (GT) helped him receive a lucrative contract of INR 7.4 crore from the latter.

The right-handed Tamil Nadu batter might be seen playing as a finisher in the GT squad. Shahrukh was associated with Kings for two years at a base amount of INR 9 crore/year. However, he failed to do wonders in PBKS colours but will look to justify his amount in Gujarat in 2024.

Shahrukh has been active in the cash-rich IPL since 2021 and during this period, he has scored only 426 runs in 33 matches at a strike rate of 134.81. The 28-year-old will look to improve his performance in the new team.

4. Yash Dayal- (25x)

Yash Dayal failed to be impressive with the ball for GT in 2023, picking up only two wickets in five matches at a miserable economy of 11.79. His horrendous bowling came against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Ahmedabad. Bowling the last over of the match, he failed to save 31 runs as Rinku Singh smacked him for five maximums.

Witnessing his dismal performance in the season, Gujarat parted ways with him. Dayal went under the hammer with a base amount of INR 20 lakh and he grabbed the attention of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Gujarat Titans (GT). In the end, Challengers was successful in fetching the 26-year-old for INR 5 crore.

Dayal will provide variation to Bangalore’s pace attack with his left-arm fast bowling. Forgetting his previous failures, he will strive to assist international bowlers Mohammed Siraj and Reece Topley for RCB in the upcoming competition.

3. Shubham Dubey (29x)

Vidarbha middle-order batter Shubham Dubey went to Rajasthan Royals (RR) for INR 5.8 crore. He has been playing domestic cricket since 2021 and in these two years, he has chalked up 485 runs in 19 innings of 20 games at a stellar strike rate of 145.20 and an average of 37.30.

In the 2023-24 domestic season, Dubey has looked confident with his bat thus far. Appearing in the 2023-24 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he scored 221 runs in seven matches at a notable strike rate of 187.28 and a superb average of 73.66. His T20 numbers reveal that he can be effective for the Royals in 2024.

Dubey’s name was announced with a base amount of INR 20 lakh but the fierce bidding contest between RR and Delhi Capitals (DC) proved beneficial for the 29-year-old. In the upcoming tournament, Dubey will have to justify his enormous amount.

2. Kumar Kushagra (36x)

Jharkhand’s wicket-keeper batter Kumar Kushagra also became a recipient of a lucrative contract in the auction. The Jharkhand wicket-keeper registered his name with a base price of INR 20 lakh but DC had a fierce battle with GT and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to reserve his services for a massive sum of INR 7.2 crore.

The 19-year-old has almost three years of experience in domestic cricket. Serving Jharkhand since February 2021, he has amassed 140 runs in 11 matches at a strike rate of 117.64. Despite the young batter’s poor record in T20s, DC have shown faith in him. However, his List A record is fabulous as he has scored 700 runs with seven fifties in just 19 innings.

1. Sameer Rizvi (42x)

Sameer Rizvi grabbed a lot of eyeballs after becoming the costliest uncapped player in the auction. He attracted a staggering bid of INR 8.4 crore from the defending champions CSK. The five-time champions beat GT and DC on the auction table, to include him in their 2024 IPL squad.

The 20-year-old has been playing domestic cricket for Uttar Pradesh since 2020 and in these four years, he has played a lot of match-finishing knocks for his side. In T20 cricket, he has hit 295 runs in nine innings of 11 contests at an exceptional average of 49.16.
