Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have been one of the most successful franchises in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL). They are known for their consistency and strong team culture under MS Dhoni’s leadership, the franchise has often bounced back from tough seasons. However, IPL 2025 was one of their most disappointing campaigns as they finished at the bottom of the points table with only four wins.

With a transitional squad and inconsistent performances, CSK will be desperate to revamp their side ahead of the IPL 2026 season. Here are five players CSK could target in the upcoming auction to rebuild and strengthen their team.

The Tamil Nadu wicketkeeper-batter Narayan Jagadeesan could be a valuable acquisition for CSK in the IPL 2026 mini-auction. Having previously been part of the CSK setup, he understands the franchise’s culture. Over the past couple of domestic seasons, Jagadeesan has been in terrific form, especially in the shorter formats.

His ability to anchor the innings and accelerate when needed makes him a dependable option in the middle order. Moreover, he can serve as a backup wicketkeeper, providing flexibility in team combinations. Although he has limited IPL experience, his current form and domestic performances make him a strong candidate for a comeback in the yellow jersey.

Tim Seifert

New Zealand’s explosive wicketkeeper-batter Tim Seifert could be a great overseas addition to the CSK squad. Seifert has gained vast experience by playing in T20 leagues around the world, including the CPL, BBL, and The Hundred. His aggressive batting style and ability to adapt to various conditions make him an ideal fit for CSK’s top order.

In international cricket, Seifert has scored 1788 runs in 70 T20I innings for the Kiwis. His recent form in the 2025 Caribbean Premier League, where he amassed 396 runs in 10 innings, shows his consistency. Seifert’s versatility could provide CSK with the much-needed firepower in the powerplays.

Sam Billings

England cricketer Sam Billings could make a return to the CSK setup in IPL 2026. Billings has previously played for CSK but never quite cemented his place in the XI. However, in recent years, he has grown as a leader and a middle-order stabiliser across global leagues.

He is known for his adaptability and ability to finish games, and could bring balance and experience to CSK’s middle order. His leadership experience might also be valuable for a team potentially entering a post-Dhoni era.

Harsh Tyagi

The left-arm spinner Harsh Tyagi from Delhi, could be a smart domestic signing for CSK. With his ability to bowl economically in the middle overs and contribute handy runs down the order, Tyagi fits the mold of a typical CSK-style all-rounder.

He could serve as a long-term replacement for veterans like Ravichandran Ashwin or even share spin duties with Ravindra Jadeja. Given CSK’s preference for spin-friendly conditions at Chepauk, Tyagi’s inclusion could strengthen their bowling depth.

Will Young

New Zealand’s top-order batter Will Young could be a surprise yet strategic pick for CSK. He is known for his classical stroke play, and has been consistent in international cricket, especially in ODIs.

Though his T20 record is still developing, his ability to build innings and anchor the top order can complement Ruturaj Gaikwad’s aggressive style. The strong technique makes him a valuable opening option who can stabilise innings and play long knocks.
