5 Indian batters who could dominate the next 5 years

Indian cricket has a strong pipeline of batting talent that is already making an impact at the international level. Several young and experienced batters have shown the ability to perform across formats and in challenging conditions.

With the next five years likely to bring major Test series, ICC events and bilateral competitions, these five batters stand out as players who could carry India’s batting across all three formats.

Here are the five Indian players who could dominate the next five years:

5. Yashasvi Jaiswal

Yashasvi Jaiswal made his Test debut on July 12, 2023 against West Indies at Roseau, scoring 171 in that match. He became one of a small group of Indians to score a century on Test debut, and India won by an innings and 141 runs. In the two-Test home series against West Indies in October 2025, Jaiswal was the highest run-scorer with 219 runs as India won 2-0. He also scored 58 off 97 balls in the first innings of the second Test against South Africa in November 2025.

Jaiswal made his ODI debut against England in February 2025 and scored an unbeaten 116 off 121 balls in the ODI series decider against South Africa at Visakhapatnam in December 2025, sealing a nine-wicket win. That innings made him the sixth Indian man to score an international hundred in all three formats. Jaiswal plays for Mumbai in domestic cricket and Rajasthan Royals in the IPL. Recently, in the Sri Lankan tour he could not do much with the bat but all eyes are on the youngster in the upcoming series.

4. Dhruv Jurel

Dhruv Jurel represents Uttar Pradesh in domestic cricket and Rajasthan Royals in the IPL. He first attracted wider attention with a score of 249 for Uttar Pradesh against Nagaland in the Ranji Trophy. His selection in the recent senior men’s squad reflects the confidence the national selectors have placed in him as a wicketkeeper-batter with domestic pedigree.

While he is yet to accumulate a large volume of international appearances, his inclusion in a Test squad featuring established names is a clear indicator of his standing in the current setup. In the Sri Lankan series, he scored one fifty and one century sealing his spot and showing his skills as a specialist batter.

3. Rishabh Pant

Rishabh Pant was named in India’s squad for the one-off Test against Afghanistan but lost his vice-captain role ahead of this Test. He remains one of India’s most important batting options across formats, particularly in Test cricket where his aggressive left-handed approach has produced match-winning performances.

As a wicketkeeper-batter, Pant brings a dual value to the side, and his ability to accelerate the scoring rate in the middle order has been a consistent feature of his game. His presence in the squad alongside younger batters also gives the team a balance of experience and emerging talent. In the Sri Lankan series, he scored two fifties but not so effective from his end to dominate the opposition.

2. Devdutt Padikkal

Devdutt Padikkal was part of India’s 15-member squad for the one-off home Test against Afghanistan starting June 6, 2026 but did not get a chance to play. The left-handed batter has been building his case for a regular Test berth through consistent performances in domestic cricket.

Padikkal’s left-handed batting provides a different dimension to India’s top order, and his technique in longer formats has drawn attention from selectors over the past couple of seasons. He got his place in the playing XI in the two-match series against Sri Lanka in place of Sai Sudharsan where he scored two tons at No.3 cementing his place in the Indian setup. This makes everyone believe that the Karnataka batter could be a regular feature in that position.

1. Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill took over the captaincy after Rohit Sharma’s retirement and since then he has been consistently scoring runs for the Indian team. Gill plays for Gujarat Titans in the IPL and has been leading Indian ODI side too.

The right-handed top-order batter has shown the ability to build innings in Test cricket while also being effective in white-ball formats. His leadership role adds another dimension to his profile as one of Indian cricket’s most important players heading into the next five years.
