3 Test bowlers who can be given a chance in ODIs

India’s ODI setup is gradually taking shape ahead of the 2027 World Cup, and selectors have been keeping a close eye on performers across formats. Several Test specialists have made strong cases for themselves through consistent domestic and international outings.

The three bowlers discussed here have each shown qualities that translate well to the 50-over format. Their List A records, recent Test performances and specific bowling skills make them worth considering for an ODI opportunity in the near future.

Here are three Test bowlers who can be given a chance in ODIs:

1. Manav Suthar

Manav Suthar is a 24-year-old slow left-arm orthodox spinner from Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan, who represents Rajasthan in domestic cricket and Gujarat Titans in the IPL. He made his Test debut on June 6, 2026 against Afghanistan, taking six wickets in that match alone. In just three Tests, Suthar has claimed 23 wickets at a bowling average of 17.34, with a best of 6/33, two five-wicket hauls and one ten-wicket match.

He was India’s leading wicket-taker in the Afghanistan Test, finishing with seven wickets across the match. In 25 List A games, he has taken 34 wickets at an economy of 4.41, which suggests he can control runs in the 50-over format. His left-arm spin, combined with lower-order batting ability, adds genuine all-round value to any side.

2. Anshul Kamboj

Anshul Kamboj is a 25-year-old right-arm medium pacer from Karnal, Haryana, standing 1.87 m tall. He first drew widespread attention after taking all 10 wickets in a single Ranji Trophy innings, which led to a bidding war at the 2025 IPL Auction. Chennai Super Kings signed him for INR 3.40 crore. In the 2026 IPL season, he was the highest wicket-taker for Chennai Super Kings with 21 wickets, even as the side finished eighth with six wins from 14 games.

His List A record of 35 appearances, 56 wickets at an average of 22.41 and an economy of 4.58 reflects consistent performance across the format. Kamboj’s high-arm action and seam movement make him a useful option across different phases of an ODI innings, and his ability to extract bounce on unresponsive surfaces adds to his appeal.

3. Akash Deep

Akash Deep brings raw pace, high intensity, and a natural ability to attack the stumps. Having already established himself in the Test arena, highlighted by his impressive 10-wicket match haul against England, he has the multi-format pedigree to make an impact in 50-over cricket as well.

The pacer has claimed 48 wickets in 35 List A matches at a strong strike rate of 33.73. His aggressive lengths and skiddy pace could make him an effective enforcer in ODI cricket. His inclusion in multi-format squads also indicates that he remains a potential white-ball option, particularly when senior pacers are rested.
