1. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi could become the first-choice opener

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was left out of India’s playing XI for the first T20I against Afghanistan, with Sanju Samson opening alongside Abhishek Sharma. However, the competition for the opening spots is far from settled. If either Samson or Abhishek fails to deliver consistently, the team management could look towards the teenage sensation, especially after his impressive performances in the recent series against Zimbabwe. Sooryavanshi’s attacking approach could give India another explosive option at the top of the order.

The youngster has already shown that he can handle international cricket despite his age, and his ability to put pressure on the opposition from the first ball makes him an attractive option. 2. India could look to add a right-hander to a left-hand-heavy batting line-up

India’s current batting combination has a strong presence of left-handers. Apart from Shreyas Iyer, the middle order does not have a specialist right-handed batter, which could become a concern against certain match-ups. With that in mind, the team management could consider bringing in a right-hander such as Rajat Patidar if he continues to perform consistently.
