The 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) has completed its second week and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are holding the top spot on the points table with three in three victories while Mumbai Indians (MI) are at the bottom of the tally after losing all three games in a row.

The league is delivering ultimate action to cricket enthusiasts but some fans are missing distinguished names who performed extraordinarily in the previous edition of the tournament. These names are illustrious figures in T20 cricket and their absence is hurting their supporters.

Here are three players who are yet to play their maiden games in the 2024 IPL

3. Mitchell Santner

New Zealand’s left-arm orthodox spinner Mitchell Santner appeared in three games for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in 2023 and took three wickets at an economy of 6.76. The Kiwi stalwart has been delivering fine numbers to the Yellow Army since 2019 but the team combination has never allowed him to be a part of CSK’s playing XI in all 14 games of any season.

This year, Santner is warming benches as the Super Kings have continued with their strategy of only one spinner in the playing XI. Between Ravindra Jadeja and the New Zealander, the defending champions have to make a choice and they have gone ahead with the former as the 35-year-old possesses vast experience.

2. Devon Conway

Devon Conway played an instrumental role in CSK’s fifth title victory in 2023. With 672 runs in 16 matches at a superb strike rate of 139.70, the southpaw ended up as the third-leading run-getter in the previous season.

Ahead of the competition, Conway picked up a thumb injury during the T20 International (T20I) series against Australia at home. The Kiwi batter has to stay away from cricket until May 2024 but CSK haven’t named his replacement despite missing his services for the initial two weeks of the competition.

1. Suryakumar Yadav

In 2023, MI put up a dismal show but Suryakumar Yadav did his job efficiently. The right-handed batter smashed 605 runs in 16 matches at a breathtaking strike rate of 181.13, laced up with a ton and five fifties. With these incredible numbers, he ended up as the sixth-highest run-getter in the season.

This year, MI haven’t lived up to the expectations under Hardik Pandya’s captaincy and the team’s ardent supporters are missing the services of the 33-year-old, who has been away from the sport after injuring his ankle during India’s T20I series against South Africa in December 2023. However, in the latest development, the star batter has got NCA clearance and is set to join the squad in 1-2 days.
