India came into the T20 World Cup 2026 on the back of splendid form. Since Suryakumar Yadav took up captaincy, the Men in Blue have not lost a T20I series. They won all four games in the group stage but lost in the Super 8 clash against South Africa by 76 runs. The heavy defeat leaves them with no other choice but to win their last two games comprehensively against Zimbabwe and the West Indies.
Since the defeat to South Africa, some players who have not performed well during the tournament have received considerable criticism. In this article, we take a look at three Indian players who should be dropped after the T20 World Cup.
Here are 3 Indian players who should be dropped after T20 WC
3. Washington Sundar

Washington Sundar drew criticism from fans and experts due to his lacklustre performance against South Africa. The Indian team management was also slammed for selecting the all-rounder over vice-captain Axar Patel, who has won many games for India with both bat and ball.
Sundar was brought into the side to counter the three left-handers in South Africa’s batting line-up. However, the likes of Sanjay Manjrekar and Aakash Chopra noted that it didn’t give India any advantage, as Sundar conceded 17 runs in two overs and scored a run-a-ball 11 with the bat.
2. Rinku Singh

Rinku Singh has had a forgettable time in the tournament so far. The Indian think tank has wasted him by sending him to bat in the lower order. He hasn’t batted above No. 6 in the tournament so far. In fact, in the last game against South Africa, he was demoted to No. 8.
Rinku has played all five of India’s games so far in the 20-team tournament. The 28-year-old has scored just 24 runs in 29 balls at a paltry average of 8 and a strike rate of 82.76. He is too good a player to bat at No. 7 or 8. The southpaw could be shown the door after the T20 World Cup, and an all-rounder could take his position.
1. Sanju Samson

Sanju Samson formed a great partnership with Abhishek Sharma, but that didn’t last long. The wicketkeeper-batter had been shuffled around in the batting order since the Asia Cup in September last year. He batted down the order, moved up to the middle, and against New Zealand in the series that preceded the T20 World Cup, he returned to opening the batting.
However, his rhythm had clearly been disrupted. Against the Kiwis, he only managed 46 runs in five innings and lost his opening slot to Ishan Kishan. Samson did play the game against Namibia in the group stage when Abhishek was recovering from illness. The wicketkeeper-batter did score 22 off eight balls but couldn’t convert his start into a substantial score.
