Delhi Capitals had a forgettable season in the IPL 2023. The absence of Rishabh Pant was a big deal as it potentially cost them three players. They missed Pant the batter, Pant the wicketkeeper, and Pant the captain. It affected their mindset in the IPL as it seemed like the absence of Pant was felt in the dressing room atmosphere of the team. The return of the star player is huge news for the North Indian franchise.

DC has some very good batters for IPL 2024. Batting was their key problem in the 16th edition. There were no batters who batted with enough intent in the middle. While that changed in the second half, it was probably a bit too late. The role of the batters in the T20 world is crucial. Without enough runs on the board, no target is difficult to chase, given the nature of the pitches in modern times.

DC had a good auction in IPL 2023. As usual, they went behind some young names. In addition to it, they tried some experienced batters who could come in handy. Delhi has been a wicket where scoring runs has not been easy in the IPL. Hence, it is important for the batters to adapt to the conditions. Ahead of the 17th edition of the league, here are three batters to watch out for from Delhi Capitals.

Rishabh Pant 

Rishabh Pant will be in action for the first time in about 15 months. The star batter will be hungry to perform for the team. However, his eventual success would still be a doubt given his absence from the highest level and any kind of competitive cricket for a long time. It is claimed that Pant could be in the team as a specialist batter. Reports also claim that he could not lead DC in some of the matches.

The key for Pant would be to slowly return to form and establish himself in the new role. Pant needs to perform well in order to get selected in the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup 2024. Hence, he would be charged up to perform well in the IPL 2024. By doing so, Pant can make a good case for himself to get selected in the T20 World Cup squad. Fans will be rooting for his success in the league.

Prithvi Shaw

Prithvi Shaw has had a mixed bag in cricket in recent times. Up until the IPL 2022, it seemed like the Indian management was happy to have him in the scheme of things. Since then, however, Shaw has made headlines for unwanted things. He would love to let his bat do the talking come the 17th edition of the league. With David Warner at the top at the other end, Shaw can free his arms and go after the bowlers for fun.

In the powerplay overs, given the field restrictions, Shaw has what it takes to hit boundaries. He takes risks with aerial shots and plays lovely drives too. Bowlers will have a difficult time bowling to the young batter. If he can fire at the top at a great rate, Shaw can make a case for himself in the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup 2024, where there seems to be a stacked option for opening the innings.

Tristan Stubbs

Tristan Stubbs has been a revelation in the SA20. The South African played a key role in Sunrisers Eastern Cape’s title defence last month. In the IPL auction 2024, DC picked him as the WK batter. As Pant is unlikely to keep wickets, Stubbs might have the added responsibility of keeping the wickets. But that was how Stubbs shined in the SA20 2024. He would be up for the challenge at a higher level.

The youngster can smash huge sixes and entertain the crowd. His place in the South African XI is not yet sure, as Heinrich Klaasen can keep wickets and bat lower down the order. In order to make a case for himself, Stubbs must perform both as a batter and as a wicketkeeper. That could possibly bring the best out of the young player. The DC management needs to back Stubbs to deliver the goods.
