In Test cricket, each team has two innings which gives bowlers the opportunity to take as many wickets as possible across both innings. While many cricketers have taken ten or more wickets in a match, the incredible feat of claiming all ten wickets in a single innings remains an extremely rare achievement.

Till now, only three cricketers have achieved the remarkable milestone. Let us take a closer look at the players who have taken all ten wickets in an innings.

England spinner Jim Laker achieved the remarkable feat against Australia in the fourth Test at Manchester in 1956. England posted a commanding total of 459 runs in the first innings before Australia were bowled out for just 84, with Laker taking nine wickets.

The visitors, who were forced to follow on, managed only 205 runs in their second innings as England won the match by an innings and 170 runs. In Australia’s second innings, Laker accomplished the extraordinary by dismissing all 10 batters for just 53 runs, bowling 51.2 overs.

The second bowler to achieve the rare feat was India’s legendary leg-spinner Anil Kumble, who did it against arch-rivals Pakistan in 1999 at Delhi. India scored 252 runs in the first innings while Pakistan were bowled out for 172. India then added 339 runs in their second innings, setting Pakistan a massive target of 420.

However, Pakistan were bundled out cheaply as India won the match by 212 runs. Kumble created history in the second innings by taking all 10 wickets, conceding just 74 runs in 26.3 overs.

Despite his heroic performance, India went on to win the match by a massive margin of 372 runs, as their spinners bowled out New Zealand cheaply in both the innings.
