Indonesia registered a thumping 127-run win against Mongolia on the back of debutant Rohmalia Rohmalia’s seven-wicket haul at the Udayana Cricket Ground in Bali on Wednesday, April 24.

Making her international debut, Rohmalia registered mind-boggling figures of 3.2-3-0-7 in the fifth T20I of the six-match series. Rohmalia, who is just 17 years old, broke the previous record held by Netherlands’ Frederique Overdijk, who had figures of 4-2-3-7 against France during a match in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Europe Region Qualifier at the La Manga Club Top Ground in 2021.

Teenager Rohmalia became only the fourth bowler to pick up seven wickets in a T20I encounter. Overdijk (4-2-3-7 against France, 2021), Argentina Women’s Alison Stocks (3.4-0-3-7 against Peru, 2022), Malaysia’s Syazrul Ezat Idrus (4-1-8-7 against China, 2023) had registered seven-fors before the Indonesian right-arm off-spinner. Rohmalia also broke the record for the best figures on T20I debut, going past Anjali Chand’s spell of 2.1-2-0-6 for Nepal against Maldives back in 2019.

Indonesia win big after Rohmalia’s heroics

Indonesia won the toss and opted to bat first on Wednesday. They put on a score of 151 runs for the loss of five wickets in their stipulated 20 overs. Ni Putu Ayu Nanda Sakarini starred with the bat, as she scored 61 runs off just 44 balls, hitting six fours and a solitary six during the mesmerising knock. For Mongolia, Mendbayaar Enkhzul was the pick of the bowlers, as she accounted for four wickets, conceding 29 runs in four overs.

Mongolia, however, couldn’t pose much of a challenge with the bat in the second innings, as they were rolled over for just 24 in 16.2 overs after Rohmalia wreaked havoc with the ball. By virtue of this comfortable win, Indonesia, the home side, took a 4-0 lead in the six-match series.
