Asian Men’s T20 | Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka 3rd Place Match Preview

Asian Men's T20 Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka 3rd Place Match Preview

Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka – Bronze Medal Match, Asian Games 2026 Men’s T20

The Bronze Medal Match of the Asian Games 2026 men’s T20 event will see Bangladesh take on Sri Lanka on Saturday, October 3, at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin, Japan. The match will begin at 9:00 AM local time, 12:00 AM GMT, 5:30 AM IST and 6:00 AM Bangladesh time. Both teams lost their semi-finals and will now fight for a place on the podium.

Bangladesh come into the match after a six-wicket defeat to Pakistan in a rain-shortened semi-final. They made 111/7 in 13 overs, with Towhid Hridoy top-scoring with 42, but Pakistan chased it down in 12.4 overs. Sri Lanka suffered a heavier loss, bowled out for 45 while chasing 170 against India, so they will want a much better batting display.

Bangladesh’s batting group features Litton Das, Tanzid Hasan Tamim, Saif Hasan, Towhid Hridoy, Yasir Ali and Mosaddek Hossain. Litton, who leads the side and keeps wicket, can provide an attacking start in the powerplay. Hridoy brings aggressive stroke-making through the middle order, while Yasir and Mosaddek add depth and finishing ability.

Bangladesh also have all-round options in Mahedi Hasan and Rishad Hossain. Both offer spin bowling along with lower-order batting, which could suit a slow surface.

The Bangladesh bowling attack includes Mustafizur Rahman, Shoriful Islam and Nasum Ahmed. Mustafizur’s cutters and pace variations will be key with the new ball, and he will want to recover after conceding 41 runs in two overs in the semi-final. Shoriful adds left-arm pace, and Nasum, a left-arm spinner, could be important through the middle overs.

Sri Lanka’s batting group is led by captain Sahan Arachchige and includes Niroshan Dickwella, Lasith Croospulle, Nuwanidu Fernando and Ashen Bandara. Dickwella, who keeps wicket, can provide a positive start at the top of the order, while Arachchige and Bandara bring stability through the middle. Fernando adds further depth.

Sri Lanka also have all-round options in Chamika Karunaratne and Wanuja Sahan. Karunaratne offers seam bowling along with big hitting down the order, while Sahan adds balance to the lower order.

The Sri Lanka bowling attack features Nuwan Thushara, Binura Fernando, Tharindu Ratnayake and Dushan Hemantha. Thushara’s slingy action and yorkers can give early breakthroughs, while Hemantha’s leg-spin could be particularly important in the middle overs.

The pitch at Korogi Sports Park has been difficult for batters, with the slower surface making timing harder in the middle overs, so spin is likely to matter. Weather looks much better than for the earlier matches, with sunny conditions, around 20°C at the start and no significant rain threat. The captain winning the toss may prefer to bat first and put runs on the board.

This match could be closely contested because both teams are coming off heavy defeats and have similar spin-based plans. Bangladesh will depend heavily on Litton Das, Towhid Hridoy, Mustafizur Rahman, Mahedi Hasan and Rishad Hossain, while Sri Lanka’s chances could be shaped by Sahan Arachchige, Niroshan Dickwella, Chamika Karunaratne, Nuwan Thushara and Dushan Hemantha. Bangladesh may have a slight edge because of their spin depth and Litton’s leadership, though Sri Lanka’s pace attack could keep them competitive.

Expert Prediction: Bangladesh have a 55% chance and Sri Lanka have a 45% winning chance.
