Sydney Sixers (SIX) will lock horns with Sydney Thunder (THU) in the 34th match of the BBL 2023-24 at the Sydney Cricket Ground in Sydney on January 12. With the business end of the tournament in play, Sydney Sixers are in a good position as they are placed third with four wins from eight games, while Sydney Thunder has had a disastrous season, registering just one win from seven games.

Sydney Sixers squared off against Melbourne Stars in their last encounter, where Sydney Sixers won the toss and elected to bowl. Stars started well, setting up an opening stand of 40 runs, but the scoring rate took a hit as they lost two back-to-back wickets. Even by scoring almost at a rate of 10 in the death overs, the Stars could only score 156 runs. After a decent start, a sensational partnership for the second wicket sealed the match for the Sixers. They easily won the game by seven wickets with 11 balls to spare.

Sydney Thunder played against Perth Scorchers in their last match, where Perth Scorchers won the toss and elected to bowl. On a slow track, Thunder made a slow start, scoring just 35 runs in six overs. They had a solid second-wicket partnership but could not build up on the platform as the middle order folded, and the team could only put up 137 runs by the end. In reply, Scorchers had a much better start, and they kept having good regular partnerships. With a complete team performance, Perth Scorchers easily won the game by seven wickets.

Tom Curran has been ruled out of the tournament as he sustained a knee injury in their last match. Both David Warner and Steve Smith have been named in their respective squads for this match.

The track at the Sydney Cricket Ground is quite equally helpful to batters as well as bowlers in nature. Pacers are expected to do well here with good swing and movement off the pitch. Batters, once settled, can look to score big. Teams prefer to chase the total after winning the toss, with the average first innings score being 144.
