What is Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s record in ODIs in Australia?

What is Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli's record in ODIs in Australia?

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were named in the Indian cricket team for the upcoming three-ODI series in Australia. The series will be part of India’s white-ball tour that will also feature five T20Is. Shubman Gill was named the new ODI captain of the Indian team, replacing Rohit Sharma.

This will be the first appearance of Rohit and Kohli for the Men in Blue in ODIs since March 2025, when they helped India win the ICC Champions Trophy in Dubai.

Kohli had done well in CT 2025, scoring a century against Pakistan and 84 against Australia in the semi-final while Rohit’s bat was silent for the group stage before he hammered 76 in the final against New Zealand, helping India lift their second Champions Trophy title.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s record in ODIs in Australia

Rohit played his first ODI for India in Australia in 2008 in the famous tri-series win under MS Dhoni. On the other hand, Kohli played his first ODI for India in the 2012 Australia tri-series, where he famously hammered Lasith Malinga in an epic chase.

Talking about Rohit’s ODI record in Australia, he has scored 1328 runs at an average of 53.12 and a strike rate of 90.58 in 30 ODIs, including five centuries and four fifties, with the best score of 171*. The famed 171* came against Australia in the tri-series involving England as well. The knock was played at the WACA, Perth, with Rohit hitting 13 sixes and seven fours.

Kohli has a similar record to Rohit Sharma in ODIs in Australia, having scored 1327 runs with an average of 51.03 and a strike rate of 89.06, including five centuries and six fifties, with the best score of 133*. The 133* is the same insane knock that Kohli played against Sri Lanka in Hobart. Sri Lanka had made 320/4, with Tillakaratne Dilshan (160*) and Kumar Sangakkara (105) hitting centuries. India needed to achieve the target in under 38 overs or so to stay in contention for the final.

Kohli took it upon himself and hammered 133* in 86 balls with 16 fours and two sixes to take India to win in 36.4 overs with seven wickets in hand.

The duo is set to make a much-awaited return to not just India’s ODI setup but also in the land of the Kangaroos. With how things stand, this could well be their final outings in Australia. They will be keen to make it count.
