Vitality Blast 2025: Predicting LAN’s Playing XI for the North Group against LEI

Lancashire is off to an exhilarating start in the Vitality Blast Men 2025 North Group after a last-ball win over Durham. Currently sitting at the top of the table, the Red Rose side will now host Leicestershire at Old Trafford, a place where they have typically been successful. With a squad comprising international players, young domestic talent, and the ideal blend of youth and experience, Lancashire will aim to continue their winning ways.

Openers

Keaton Jennings

Chances are, Keaton Jennings will be calling the shots at the top of the order. In the first game against Durham, Jennings looked in decent form when he scored 24 off 21 deliveries. It is not a big score, but it came at a fair strike rate and helped create a solid base. Jennings brings experience and stability, and as a technically proficient left-handed opening batsman, is suited to playing within the powerplay.

The person he will partner with will likely be Michael Jones, Lancashire’s top scorer in their last match. Jones’ 55 off 39 was a match-defining innings with plenty of smart strike rotation and two important sixes to release the pressure halfway through the innings. Jones looked calm, composed, and under pressure and has shown he can play a role as an anchor while also accelerating the innings as required.

Middle Order

Josh Bohannon

Josh Bohannon comes in at number 4 and brings the best combination of control and calm to the table. The 31 off 28 balls in his last dismissal may not be overly impressive, but it came at a time when the game was in the balance. Bohannon responded to pressure with mature batting, moving the strike about and forming partnerships that ensured the chase didn’t spiral out of control.

Ashton Turner may have been dismissed cheaply against Durham, but he is still a dangerous member of the middle order. Turner is an accomplished finisher in T20 leagues worldwide and has the best aggressive intent to change the game in a moment. Turner scored 7 off 5 in his last dismissal, but expects the Australian to come back here, especially in a high-scoring arena like Old Trafford.

All-Rounders

Chris Green

Chris Green and Luke Wells constitute an explosive duo of all-rounders who can influence both innings. Green played an important role in the Durham chase when he finished with a blistering 15** off 8 balls. Far more importantly, Green bowled his full quota of four overs, without taking a wicket. Though he bowled on a flat wicket at Chester-le-Street, his terrific economy of 8.5 is an indicator of his control and variations.

Wells had a good day with bat and ball. He only scored 11 as Batman but finished with 1 for 18 from his 3 overs as a bowler. His part-time spin gives Lancashire a critical balance to their bowling attack and an extra bowler to use, which is essential in T20. Both players give Lancashire flexibility and will feature prominently in the Lancashire plans going forward.

Bowlers

James Anderson

James Anderson is the old pro in the lineup, but could have been bowling in the IPL, considering how quickly he got through his overs and the bounce he was extracting from the wicket. His spell of 3 for 17 from 4 overs was a masterclass in seam bowling, full of precision, discipline, and guile. In T20s, economy is equally as important as wickets, and Anderson offered both.

Tom Aspinwall is another exciting name. Despite being a little expensive at 8.25 an over, he took a crucial wicket and bowled aptly, with purpose. Aspinwall bowls a sharp fast-medium, hitting the deck hard and mixing it up nicely, making him an exciting young counterpoint to Anderson’s experience. Aspinwall may be the X-factor in a side filled with quality players.
